Alex Torpey, the 24 year-old mayor of South Orange, NJ and digital media entrepreneur will discuss how a new generation of online tools will empower the next generation of political leadership.
In the past year we've seen young people use social media and online organizing to create movements that have helped topple dictatorial governments and have been at the center of the national conversation in some of the worlds most powerful countries.
Alex believes that now, more than ever, there is an opportunity to engage young people who have thus far been disassociated from the political process, providing them with not only the means to run for office, but allowing them to organize far-reaching support for their initiatives once in office. Once in office, by continuing to build on the tools that got them there, these local leaders will help bring an entire generation to the forefront of urgent state, national, and global issues.
Join Alex on Februrary 16th for a brief presentation and discussion of these topics. Following the event their will be an informal meetup at a location TBA.
